    Saint Patrick, who lived from approximately 389 to 461 and was consecrated bishop around 431, is shown elevated upon a marble podium. Flanked by clerics bearing his crozier and mitre, he embodies the dignity of the episcopal office. Tiepolo portrays two essential dimensions of his ministry, preacher and exorcist. With commanding gesture, the saint directs his attention toward a peasant woman and her young son, while nearby figures recoil in awe as he frees a woman from demonic possession.
