    In this powerful composition, a helmeted soldier presses the crown of thorns into the Savior’s head with cruel force. Blood traces Christ’s brow, yet His expression remains serene and resolute. Bloch contrasts brutality and stillness, malice and mercy. Christ looks directly at the viewer as if to ask, "Will you mock me also?". His steady gaze invites quiet examination of the heart.
