Carl Heinrich Bloch (1834–1890) was a Danish painter trained at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. After study in Italy and close engagement with Rembrandt’s work, he became renowned for large religious cycles and deeply human depictions of the life of Christ. His narrative clarity and warm, dramatic lighting made his images especially influential in modern Christian devotional art.
