William Bouguereau

William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825–1905) was a French academic painter renowned for his exceptional technical skill and refined, highly finished style. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome, he became one of the leading figures of Salon art in the late nineteenth century. Bouguereau is especially known for his mythological, religious, and genre scenes, often marked by idealized beauty, gentle emotion, and masterful treatment of the human figure. Celebrated in his own time and later rejected by many modernists, Bouguereau has since been reevaluated for his technical mastery and influence on academic painting.
