Victor Meirelles de Lima (1832–1903) was a Brazilian Academic and Romantic painter known for monumental historical compositions that shaped visual interpretations of Brazil’s history. Trained at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and later in Europe, he became a leading artist of the reign of Emperor Dom Pedro II, creating celebrated works such as The First Mass in Brazil.
