Luca Giordano

Prolific Neapolitan Baroque painter nicknamed “Luca fa presto” (“Luca, work quickly”). Active in Naples, Florence, Venice, and at the Spanish court, he executed vast fresco cycles and altarpieces characterized by rapid brushwork, rich color, and theatrical movement. His versatility allowed him to echo many different styles, from Venetian colorism to the classicism of the Bolognese school.
