    Saint Luke, the physician and patron of artists, is shown in deep concentration as he writes his Gospel. A soft golden halo glows above his head, a sign of sanctity and the inspiration of the holy spirit. Beside him rests the winged ox, symbol of sacrifice, recalling the mercy of Christ whose Passion Luke describes with tenderness and detail.
