Carlo Dolci (1616–1687) was a Florentine Baroque painter famed for exquisitely finished devotional images of Christ, the Virgin, and the saints. He worked with a smooth, enamel-like surface, refined detail, and a meditative, almost mystical stillness that invited prolonged contemplation. His pious character and slow, painstaking technique were legendary among his contemporaries.
